I get this question a lot, actually. NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT TO ANSWER IT! And I'm trying to stay awake for...three more hours before I go to sleep and wake up for MEGACON tomorrow. :D
ANYWAY, storytime!
Once upon a time, there was a friendless future fangirl. She loved Pokemon, so when she magically came across a forum called Pokemasters, she gladly signed up as pikachu_rulez to talk about the games and anime while they were in their glory days.
One day out of boredom, she decided to go to the 'FanWorks' section of the forum, which interested her because it said it had to do with art and writing, and she did love to draw and write. Still does, really. But this was her very first step into the word of fanfiction.
In the Pokemasters FanWorks forum, she found everything from crackfic (though she didn't know it was called that at the time) to wonderfully written poetry and even some original fiction. Soon enough, the friendless future fangirl found herself spending hours there, hoping to see her favorite stories on top of the message board, a sign they'd been updated.
It should also be mentioned that at the time, she was rather obsessed with Neopets. One of her pets there was a Uni, a winged unicorn, that if you squinted, bore a resemblance to a Rapidash. The idea simply fell into her head, and thus, pikachu_rulez began her very first fanfic.
By todays fic stanards, it was pure junk. It was a self-insert Mary Sue crossover that followed the plotline of the G/S/C Pokemon games. The hero featured a girl named
Ashley, and point of view was in pikachu_rulez's Uni, Aecadia, who got sucked into the Pokemon world and was transformed as a Rapidash. There, she was captured by Ashley's friend and love interest, Chris, who specialized in fire-type Pokemon.
Sound familiar? Never mind that it wasn't proofread or anything; it was just typed in the reply box on the thread whenever she felt like it.
Surprisingly - although maybe not back then - the fic was well received, and pikachu_rulez began to gain a small following. About halfway through her first fic - which was titled 'Your Soul Will Stay the Same' - she began another one called 'April: Dragon Tamer'.
Compared to her first fic, this one was significantly, well,
better. It had a fairly original (for its time) plotline, and characters the friendless future fangirl would soon grow to cherish like so many other writers cherish their characters.
Through 'April', she met a guy named Nick and they became fairly close online friends. He was also a fanfic writer, but he didn't post his stories on Pokemasters - he posted them on a website called FanFiction.net. He strongly urged pikachu_rulez to get an account there and post her stories, since he was confident they would be well received.
But first, in order to post anything there, she had to pick a username.
Around this time, pikachu_rulez had begun to get into 'Sailor Moon'. She became a little obsessed, as she usually does with something she really really really likes, and found the word Serenity used as a name just incredibly lovely. It struck a chord somewhere deep inside of her, and she couldn't escape the thought of it as a name - part of
her name, as a matter of fact.
But just 'Serenity' wasn't enough. The actual origin of the use of the word 'Rainbow' is actually a deep, dark secret that will never see the light of day, but rest assured, it still to this day holds a deep, significant meaning to the friendless future fangirl.
Thus, RainbowSerenity was born.
And now the friend
ly definite fangirl - better known as RS - never uses any other username, because quite frankly, it'd be weird, and she hopes to make a name for herself with this username. Who knows, maybe someday it'll actually be a pseudonym on the cover of a book. :D
...Why do I make a story out of everything? xDD
